Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Rhombus- bohrer in Stirnansicht.

  Method of drilling hexagonal holes.

   It is known to drill polygonal holes with the aid of a template identical or similar to the hole shape and a polygonal drill, the drill and workpiece performing a reciprocating rotary movement against one another in order to enable the drill to roll on the template. So far, drills have been used as a rule, the number of edges is one less than that of the hole to be made. According to the invention, hexagonal holes are drilled with triangular or two-sided (so-called rhombus) drills, which are easier to manufacture and cheaper than the pentagonal drills used previously.

   In the method according to the invention, the circle inscribed in the hexagonal hole to be produced is at the same time the circle circumscribed in the triangular drill cross-section or the distance between parallel hexagonal sides equal to the edge distance of the rhombus drill.

   In the drawing, FIGS. 1 and 2 each show a hexagonal template with a triangular or. Rhombus drill in front view.

   The surfaces of the template i on which the edges of the drill are guided are shown in the drawing
 EMI1.1
 (Rhombus drill, Fig. 2). As the drill advances, these cutting edges work the material away from the bottom of the hole in the workpiece, the edges of which are precisely worked out by the tips of the cutting edges that are formed when the cutting edges converge with the side edges of the drill.

  As can be seen from the drawing, when making the hole according to FIG. 1, the circle circumscribed in the drill cross-section is also the inscribed circle of the hexagonal hole and, according to FIG. 2, the edge distance of the drill is equal to the distance between two parallel hexagonal sides.
