Die bekannten Schmelzsicherungen für elektrische Stromkreise haben die Eigenschaft, dass sie bei Überschreiten einer gewissen Stromstärke ansprechen und den durchfliessenden Strom abschalten.
Um die Sicherung wieder brauchbar zu machen, muss der Schmelzdraht ersetzt werden. Um den Nachteil des Ersetzens des Sehmelzdrahtes zu vermeiden, ist vorgeschlagen worden, den Schmelzdraht durch eine leitende Flüssigkeit zu ersetzen, welche selbständig in das Sicherungsrohr hineinfliessen kann. Um diesen Mangel zu beseitigen, wird erfindungsgemäss in die leitende Flüssigkeit (z. B. Quecksilber) einer Sicherung Pressluft hineingeblasen, so dass die Flüssigkeitssäule unterbrochen und aus dem Sicherungsrohr herausgestossen wird.
Die Einrichtung gemäss der Erfindung besitzt dem Bekannten gegenüber Vorteile, indem Pressluft leicht erhältlich ist und die leitende Flüssigkeit restlos aus dem Sieherungsrohr ausgestossen wird, so dass keine leitenden Reste, welche den Strom führen könnten, übrigbleiben. Wenn die Flüssigkeit aus dem Sicherungsrohr ausgestossen ist, wird die Pressluft durch das letztere durchströmen und das Auslöschen des Lichtbogens begünstigen.
Durch diese Anordnung ist es also möglich, dass die Sicherung für einen beliebigen Dauerstrom bemessen werden kann, aber doch einen beliebigen kleineren Strom zu einem beliebigen Moment abschalten kann.
