Los métodos GMR que se describen aquí permiten una optimización genética no intergenérica de las redes reguladoras clave en los microorganismos, que mejoran las funciones beneficiosas para plantas con respecto a los microorganismos de tipo salvaje pero que no presentan los riesgos asociados con los abordajes transgénicos (es decir, una función genética impredecible, problemas con el público y con las normas reguladoras, etc.). La presente divulgación también provee microorganismos remodelados y de composiciones con los mismos. La utilización de microorganismos remodelados y de composiciones con los mismos permitirá que los productores obtengan rendimientos de cultivo más predecibles y productivos sin la degradación de nutrientes, lixiviación o escurrimiento tóxico asociados con los fertilizantes tradicionales sintéticos.
