Abstract

The final stage is at a target pressure for distribution. Between the intermediate and final stage, the gas is treated to remove water and high molecular weight hydrocarbons so that the pressurized gas to the final stage is compressed natural gas. The alternative compressor is composed of a series of sets of compression stages that are all driven by a single shaft. Each set of compression stages includes a cylinder with a piston that moves alternately inside the cylinder to compress and pressurize the fluid in it. The alternative compressor can be an un-lubricated design and thereby eliminates the contamination of lubricating oil from compressed natural gas downstream or high molecular weight hydrocarbons.
