Reivindicación 3: Una composición que comprende una proteína IRDIG insecticida formulada. Reivindicación 5: Una planta o parte de planta que comprende una secuencia de ácido nucleico que codifica una proteína IRDIG insecticida que comprende una secuencia de ácido nucleico de la reivindicación 1. Reivindicación 15: Un método para controlar insectos susceptibles que comprende poner en contacto dicho insecto con una cantidad eficaz de una proteína IRDIG insecticida de la reivindicación 3. Reivindicación 19: Un método para producir una planta tolerante a coleópteros que comprende cruzar una planta no transgénica con una planta transgénica que comprende una construcción de ADN externo, capaz de expresar una proteína IRDIG insecticida, incorporada establemente en el genoma de la planta y seleccionar progenie analizando al menos una porción de la construcción de ADN externo que emana de la planta transgénica.
