Abstract
Reivindicación 1: Un método para obtener una planta de maíz Waxy o ceroso; el método comprende: a) introducir una ruptura de cadena doble en al menos un sitio objetivo en una secuencia codificante Wx1 endógena en una célula de planta de maíz para producir una célula de planta de maíz con una secuencia de nucleótidos de Wx1 modificada, en donde la secuencia de nucleótidos de Wx1 modificada comprende una alteración de ácidos nucleicos que inactiva la función del gen Wx1, y b) generar una planta de maíz a partir de la célula de planta de maíz de (a), en donde la planta de maíz produce granos con un mayor porcentaje de amilopectina en comparación con una segunda planta de maíz que comprende un gen Wx1 funcional. Reivindicación 12: Una planta producida por el método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1 ó 2. Reivindicación 14: Un polinucleótido guía que comprende un dominio de direccionamiento variable que es complementario a un sitio objetivo en la secuencia codificante WX1 endógena en una célula de planta de maíz. Reivindicación 17: Un método para producir una planta híbrida de maíz Waxy o ceroso, el método comprende cruzar una planta de línea endogámica de maíz Iowa Stiff Stalk Synthetic que comprende una alteración de ácidos nucleicos que inactiva la función del gen Wx1 con una planta de línea endogámica de maíz no Stiff Stalk que comprende una alteración de ácidos nucleicos que inactiva la función del gen Wx1.
