Abstract
Cuando se utilizan fuera del rango de pH al que normalmente ocurre la complejación del ión de metal, los ácidos aminopolicarboxílicos pueden moderar la velocidad de reacción de los ácidos con los minerales de carbonatos. Los métodos para tratar una formación subterránea pueden comprender: proveer un fluido de tratamiento que comprende un vehículo fluido acuoso, un ácido, y un agente quelante que comprende un ácido aminopolicarboxílico, donde el fluido de tratamiento tiene un pH por debajo de aquel al que los grupos ácido carboxílico del agente quelante están sustancialmente protonados y en el cual el agente quelante no es eficaz para complejar un ión de metal; introducir el fluido de tratamiento en una formación subterránea que comprende un mineral de carbonato; hacer reaccionar el ácido con el mineral de carbonato, de manera tal que el ácido se agote por lo menos parcialmente y el pH del fluido de tratamiento aumente; y una vez que el pH del fluido de tratamiento ha aumentado sobre el valor de la pKa para uno o más de los grupos ácido carboxílico, complejar un ión de metal con el agente quelante.
