Abstract

Un dispositivo permite que fluya un líquido entre dos estructuras abiertas con diferentes elevaciones de superficie de líquido separadas por una pared. El dispositivo tiene un conducto con una entrada a un lado de la pared y una salida del otro lado de la pared separada por un punto alto por arriba de la elevación de superficie de líquido esperada. El conducto también tiene dos aberturas con válvula, una conectada a una fuente de succión que puede evacuar aire del conducto y la otra conectada a un venteo. En un ejemplo, el conducto está formado entre un par de paredes transversales espaciadas unidas a una cubierta arqueada. Las paredes transversales tienen, cada una, una ranura que permite que el dispositivo sea colocado sobre la parte superior de una pared divisoria entre dos tanques con superficies de la pared divisoria que definen parte del conducto. En un ejemplo con múltiples conductos, se provee una o más paredes interiores entre un par de paredes de extremo y una cubierta sobre las paredes interiores y de extremo puede estar provista en segmentos. Para iniciar el flujo se evacua un conducto de suficiente aire para permitir que se desarrolle sifón. Para parar el flujo se deja entrar suficiente aire al conducto a través de la válvula de venteo para quebrar el sifón. Para controlar la velocidad del flujo en un dispositivo con múltiples conductos, se puede permitir flujo sólo en algunos de los conductos. El caudal a través de un conducto también puede ser variado controlando el volumen de aire en la parte superior de un conducto.
