Abstract

Un proceso para tratar una corriente de residuos comprende (a) poner en contacto (1) un agente gelificante y (2) un activador con la corriente de residuos para producir un gel; (b) atrapar sólidos que incluye arena y arcilla, y otras partículas de sólidos con el gel; y (c) permitir que el gel se fortalezca y se solidifique para producir un depósito transitable; en donde la corriente de residuos comprende agua y sólidos, estos sólidos comprenden arena, arcilla y otras partículas de sólidos, y en donde 5% en volumen a 100% en volumen de los sólidos tienen un tamaño de partícula menor que 0,05 mm, sobre la base del volumen total de los sólidos. El proceso podría comprender, además, dispersar, el gel producido en la etapa (a) o el depósito transitable producido en la etapa (c) sobre una superficie. La presente es particularmente útil para tratar corrientes de residuos producidas en procesos para extraer betún de menas de arenas petrolíferas.
