Abstract

A wireless transmission / reception unit (WTRU) for selecting transport format combinations (TFCs) for a plurality of upstream channels, the WTRU comprises: a means of estimating the transmission power to estimate a transmission power for each of a plurality of available TFCs; and a TFC selection means for selecting a TFC for a dedicated upstream channel and a TFC for an enhanced upstream channel (EU), where the TFC for the dedicated channel is selected first, and where the TFC for the dedicated channel is it is selected based on a maximum permitted transmission power of the WTRU, and where the TFC for the EU channel is selected within the remaining WTRU transmission power after the selection of the TFC for the dedicated channel.
