Abstract

The first portion has an impact end and the second portion has an insertion end. A tongue is on the tubular body and extends outwardly from the outside of the surface of the tubular body in a direction towards the impact end and away from the insertion end of the tubular body. The tabs may be rectangular or triangular in shape or they may have other shapes that prevent the friction stabilizer from being removed from the drilling hole in a mine. When the tongue friction stabilizer is inserted into the hole drilled in a mine, the tabs do not prevent insertion. But, after insertion into the drilled hole, the tabs oppose resistance to the removal of the tubular body, and therefore allow the stabilizer to support the mine wall or the mine roof. The friction stabilizer is made by taking a steel coil and punching the shape of the tabs on the metal, for example a metal sheet, unwound from the coil. A groove is also punched in the sheet to a predetermined location. The cold drawing dies roll the tubular body, and a cutting machine cuts the tubular body through the grooves, so that the tubular bodies are cut to predetermined lengths. The tongues extend from the outer surface of the tubular body due to the natural spring constant of the steel or metal from which the tubular body is made. A welding ring is welded to the impact end and has a welding ring space.
