Abstract

Un riel lateral para un bastidor de un vehículo, que tiene una seccion transversal con una forma general en C abierto, definida por un alma que seextiende verticalmente, alas superior e inferior que se extienden desde los bordes del alma, y rebordessuperior e inferior que se extienden desde el borde delas alas superior e inferior, respectivamente. El reborde superior se extiende desde el borde del ala superior; y está plegado de manera tal que una porciondel reborde superior es paralelo a, y hace tope con, una superficie orientada hacia dentro, del ala superior. Similarmente, el reborde inferior se extiendedesde el borde del ala inferior y está plegado de manera tal que una porcion del reborde inferior es paralelo a, y hace tope con, una superficie orientadahacia dentro, del ala inferior. El posicionamiento horizontal de los rebordes superior e inferior, permite un incremento de la resistencia estructural del riellateral, sin dejar de permitir que un miembro transversal sea posicionado entre, y adyacentemente a, tanto el reborde superior como el inferior. El miembrotransversal puede seguidamente ser fijado al riel lateral mediante el remachado del miembro transversal a las alas superior e inferior. Los rebordes superior einferiorproveen un doble espesor de la chapa utilizada para formar el riel lateral en la region remachada en la cual el travesano es fijado al riel lateral.El riel lateral puede ser formado de manera tal que los rebordes superior e inferior se extiendan a lo largo de la totalidad de la longitud del riel lateral, ocon una pluralidad de segmentos de reborde superior e inferior cooperantes. En otra forma de realizacion, los rebordes tienen porciones que se extiendenverticalmente y que hacen un tope con lasuperficie orientada hacia dentro, del alma.
