Abstract
De acuerdo con la invención composiciones de polímeros que contienen halógenos, que comprenden una composición estabilizante de calor que contienemercaptán latente y están substancialmente libres del olor repulsivo típicamente asociado con mercaptanes son protegidos durante la elaboración porlos productos de degradación del mercaptán latente (es decir, de bloques), que incluyen un mercaptán libre. Se cree que otros productos de la degradaciónincluyen carbocationes de la porción de bloques, que son estabilizados por una estructura molecular en la cual, la deficiencia de electrones es compartida porvarios grupos. El mercaptán latente puede ser el único aditivo estabilizante de calor, pero el mercaptán libre liberado durante la elaboración puede tambiénsinergizar la actividad de los estabilizantes de calor a base de metal, tales como metales y estabilizantes organometálicos, como carboxilatos deorganoestano y mercapturos en la composición polímera. Los mercaptanes latentes también sirven como intermediarios en la preparación de antioxidantes, agentesanti-microbianos, fotoestabilizantes, y estabilizantes de calor primarios. Los estabilizantes de calor altamente efectivos se preparan mediante lacondensación de formaldehído y un para-fenol, y posterior condensación del producto crudo con un compuesto que contiene mercapto.
