Abstract

Se presenta un encendedor de plasma, o fuente de plasma para encender una mezcla combustible en un motor de combustión interna. El encendedor incluyepor lo menos dos electrodos separados dimensionados y dispuestos tal que se forma unplasma que se mueve radialmente hacia afuera cuando se aplica un altovoltaje a través de los electrodos. Se destaca por su uso eficiente de la energía eléctrica de entrada para activar el encendedor de plasma y por unnúcleo de plasma deignición el c ual es varios órdenes de magnitud mayor que el producido por clavijas de chispa convencionales. El movimiento hacia afueray la expansión del núcleo de plasma es producido por una fuerza de Lorentz sobre ello, que se origina por lainteracción en tre el voltaje aplicado y lacorriente entre los electrodos, a través de la mezcla, después de la generación inicial de plasma en la mezcla. Se hace posible el uso de mezclas decombustible muy magras, en las cuales ladilución de la mezcla se logra mediante el uso de re-recirculación de gas de escape. Mejora em na eficienciadel motor, y una importante reducción en poluciones de escape NOx.
