Abstract

The present disclosure provides for, and includes, a method of detecting tissue damage before it is visible on a patient's skin, comprising: measuring a plurality of sub-epidermal moisture (SEM) values at a single location at incremental times, calculating a slope between the latest SEM value and the immediately prior SEM value, comparing this slope to a threshold value, and determining that there is tissue damage if the slope exceeds the threshold value.

Claims (3)

WE CLAIM:
1. A system for analyzing sub-epidermal moisture (SEM) value trends, comprising: (a) a SEM scanner comprising one or more sensors configured to measure a plurality of SEM values at a single on on a patient at incremental times; (b) a processor electronically coupled to the SEM scanner and configured to receive the plurality of SEM values; and (c) a non-transitory computer readable medium electronically coupled to the processor and comprising instructions stored thereon that when executed on the processor, perform the steps of: (1) calculating a slope between the latest SEM value and the immediately prior SEM value; (2) comparing the slope to a threshold slope, n the threshold slope is determined by the health history of the patient; (3) detecting tissue damage below the patient’s skin when the calculated slope s the threshold slope; and (4) ying a notification on the SEM scanner when the calculated slope exceeds the threshold slope.
2. A system for analyzing sub-epidermal moisture (SEM) value trends, comprising: (a) a SEM scanner sing one or more sensors configured to measure a plurality SEM values at a plurality of locations on a patient at incremental times; (b) a processor electronically coupled to the SEM r and configured to receive the plurality of SEM ; and (c) a non-transitory er readable medium electronically coupled to the processor and comprising instructions stored thereon that when executed on the processor, perform the steps of: (1) calculating a delta value for the ity of SEM values for each time; (2) calculating a slope between the latest delta value and the immediately prior delta value; (3) comparing the slope to a threshold slope, wherein the threshold slope is ined by the health history of the patient; (4) detecting tissue damage below the patient’s skin when the calculated slope exceeds the old slope; and (5) displaying a notification on the SEM scanner when the calculated slope exceeds the threshold slope.
3. A system for analyzing sub-epidermal re (SEM) value trends, comprising: (a) a SEM scanner comprising one or more sensors configured to measure a plurality of SEM values at a single location on a patient at each of a ity of incremental times; (b) a processor electronically coupled to the SEM scanner and configured to receive the plurality of SEM values; and (c) a non-transitory computer readable medium electronically coupled to the processor and comprising instructions stored thereon that when ed on the processor, perform the steps of: (1) calculating a SEM delta value for each incremental time; (2) fitting a curve to a predetermined number of the most-recent SEM delta values; (3) calculating a curvature of the fitted curve; (4) comparing the curvature to a threshold curvature; (5) detecting tissue damage below the patient’s skin when the calculated curvature exceeds the old ure; and (6) displaying a notification on the SEM scanner when the calculated curvature exceeds the threshold ure.
