Abstract

596296 A method of quantifying an amount of intact virus particles in a sample wherein the method comprises: a) Removing free virus RNA from the sample; b) performing a method for detecting influenza virus RNA, wherein said method amplifies a conserved region within the influenza virus genome, and generates a signal indicative of influenza virus RNA remaining in the sample after removal of free virus RNA; c) Comparing a signal generated in part (b) to a signal generated by a standard influenza virus RNA to thereby quantitate the amount of influenza virus RNA; and d) Determining the amount of intact virus particles from the amount of influenza virus RNA.
