A gaming machine (10) includes a chamber-defining portion that defines a chamber (62). A panel (58) carrying gaming machine artwork (28) is arranged on one side of the chamber (62). A light diffusing element (60) is arranged on an opposed side of the chamber (62) in spaced relationship relative to the panel (62). A gaming machine illuminating arrangement (50) is arranged in the chamber between the panel (58) and the light diffusing element (60).
