Abstract

A method for amplifying nucleic acid comprising introducing a nucleic acid molecule into a cell, wherein the nucleic acid molecule includes a sequence of nucleotides that target it to an amplification region of the chromosome in the cell. The cells are grown and a cell that includes a chromosome with a portion that has undergone amplification is identified. The nucleic acid includes sequences from an rDNA unit. The method is related to methods for preparing cell lines that contain artificial chromosomes.
