A method for predicting the future channel behaviour of a multipath time-varying channel, for example in a mobile communications receiver, comprises obtaining samples of the past channel behaviour from the received signal processing the past samples to characterise the multipath components of the received signal, estimating the future channel behaviour from the estimated multipath signal characteristics (and assuming that the future mobile trajectory is known in the case of a moving receiver), and applying the predicting channel behaviour prediction in the processing of signal subsequently received to improve the channel quality.
