Abstract

Minst en kommunikasjonsenhet tilsluttet en infrastruktur (1) for kommunikasjon utnytter et første datakodeformat forskjel- lig fra et andre datakodeformat som utnyttes innenfor infra- strukturen, som omfatter minst ett datakoder/dekoder-utstyr for å omforme data kodet ifølge det førsce format til data kodet ifølge det andre format, og omvendt. Et datakoder/- dekoder-utstyr (Cl, C2, C3, C4) er plassert i infrastukturen (1).i nærheten av forbindelsen til hver av kommunikasjons- enhetene som utnytter det første format. For hver dataover- føring mellom to eller flere kommunikasjonsenhater avgjøres det på grunnlag av det dataformat som utnyttes av hver av enhetene som data skal overføres mellom, om det er nødvendig å anvende et koder/dekoder-utstyr. Dersom dette bekreftes, aktiveres det koder/dekoder-utstyr som befinner seg nærmest den kommunikasjonsenhet som utnytter det første dataformat, slik at dataene formidles i en form kodet ifølge det andre format i infrastrukturen og omformes fra det første til det andre format, eller omvendt, så når som mulig den kommunika- sjonsenhet som utnytter det første format.
