In another embodiment, the invention also relates to a composition comprising: (1) an O-lactam antibiotic which inhibits the growth of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria and (2) at least one membrane active substance. The invention also relates to improved methods for screening potentially bactericidal compositions in vitro which include components of an active complement cascade.
