Abstract

A hook having in the hook opening (1e) thereof a pivotably mounted and releasable lock piece (3) which in active position closes the opening (1e) of the hook (1), preferably for use as a mooring hook for engagement with a mooring post, ring, or the like (A), having an attachment point (1c) for a hawser (2) at one end (1a) of the hook (1), and a release means (4) for the lock piece (3) between the hawser attachment point (1c) and the free end (1b) of the hook (1). The release means (4) is movably disposed within, and projects out from, the back (1d) of the hook (1) opposite the opening (1e) in the hook (1), and is provided with a fastener (4a) for the release line (6) at the free end thereof. The fastener (4a) is situated at a distance from line (B) through the hawser attachment point (1c) and the central part of the inner contact surface (1f) of the hook (1). Pulling on release line (6) in the direction of tension (C) for the mooring hawser (2) imparts a torsional moment on the hook (1) for rotation and displacement thereof on the mooring post (A), whereby said mooring post (A) slides on the contact surface (1f) toward and into the opening (1e) of the hook (1) for release.
