Abstract

Oligomers of beta-hydroxybutyric acid are hydrolysed in an aqueous reaction mixture containing a base such as calcium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. This process allows beta-hydroxybutyric acid of a high purity, and crystallisable, to be obtained.
