Description
The invention relates to a method for remote registration of a possible connection between two offshore oil well reservoirs.
When an offshore oil well is tested for production, it will be of interest to simultaneously investigate whether there is a connection between the reservoir in the well to be tested and any nearby, temporarily abandoned exploration well reservoirs. If it can be established that there is such communication between two such wells, analyzes of this connection will contribute to increasing the understanding of the reservoir's characteristics to a significant extent.
In practice, in order to possibly carry out such an investigation, it has been necessary to use two drilling rigs, so that one is above the active well, while the other is above the abandoned well. However, this principle will entail unacceptably high costs, which means that such a method is not implemented.
When using the method according to the invention, there will, however, be opportunities to investigate whether such temporarily abandoned exploration wells have a connection with reservoirs in nearby wells to be tested for production, without there being direct contact with the abandoned well. This by equipping the abandoned well with suitable equipment for measuring the pressure in the well and transmitting information to the surface.
This is carried out by the method described in the characterizing parts of the requirements.
In the drawing, fig. 1 a schematic section of the principle of the invention and fig. 2 schematically shows some of the equipment for emitting the acoustic signals.
A temporarily abandoned well 3 is arranged at a certain distance from a newer well 5 which is to be tested for production. Both wells are connected to reservoirs and the purpose of the investigation is to determine whether there is communication between the two wells' reservoirs. In fig. 1 is such a connection sewn with a continuous reservoir 4.
In the temporarily abandoned well 3, as shown in fig. 2, inserted a casing 2 which is perforated down in the well in an area located in the well's reservoir. Above this level there is a production packing 11 and below this level a bridge plug 12. In the production packing 11 is inserted a pressure sensor 1 with an upper plug 10. From the pressure sensor, wires are led up and through a cement plug 9 and on to respectively. a power source 7 and an acoustic transmitter 6 which are both arranged on a corrosion head 8.
When the pressure down in the test well 5 is released somewhat in connection with the actual testing, the pressure in the reservoir 4 will drop accordingly, but with a time delay.
If there is a connection between the reservoir around the test well 5 and the reservoir around the temporarily abandoned well 3, the pressure in the temporarily abandoned well 3, between the bridge plug 12 and the plug 10 will also be reduced, which will be registered by the pressure sensor 1. Such a reduction in the pressure will of the pressure sensor 1 is reported to the acoustic transmitter 6 which is arranged near the seabed. The acoustic transmitter 6 will emit acoustic signals which are received by suitable receivers on, for example, a floating platform above the test well 5.
By comparing the received acoustic signals, which are converted in a suitable way into electrical signals and processed in a suitable way on board the floating platform, a basis can be formed for statements about possible communication between the two wells, on the basis of the time difference between the pressure reduction in well 5 and received acoustic signals from well 3, as well as data on the size of the pressure reduction in well 5 and the corresponding size of the pressure reduction in well 3.
