Abstract

En generelt sylindrisk akseltetning med en aksial åpning har ringformede "lepper" eller "ben" på én eller begge ender som er atskilt av et fluidfylt hulrom. Tetningen er innrettet til å tette mellom en støtte eller hus som fastholder tetningen og en generelt sylindrisk aksel som strekker seg aksialt gjennom tetningen. Fluid under trykk kan strømme inn i hulrommet og presse leppene eller benene i en radial retning som bedrer tetningsdelens tetningskontakt med akselen og huset. I visse utføringsformer har tetningen en konkav innvendig overflate for å minimere kontaktflaten (og følgelig friksjonen) mellom tetningen og den bevegelige aksel. Tetningens ytre omkrets kan være utstyrt med én eller flere O-ringtetninger for tetning mot huset eller støtten.
