Abstract

A wave energy converter is described which comprises two buoys, one first being generally flat and rising up and down in phase with passing waves on a water body, and the other being elongated and rising up and down out of phase with the passing waves. Preferably, the first bend is annular with a central vertical opening therethrough, and the elongated bend, with a weighted bottom, extends vertically through the central opening of the first bend. The two buoys therefore move out of phase with each other, and consequently provide a relatively large relative movement between the two buoys which gives rise to high efficient energy conversion. Each buoy acts as a "ground" for the other, thus avoiding the need to anchor the buoys to the bottom of the water body.
