Abstract

The conveyor is divided into two separately operated lanes, i.e. a first (1) and a second (2). Each of the webs (1, 2) has a guide roller (5, 6) which is adjacent to each other and which are interconnected and can be moved in the horizontal plane. When separating is to take place, the transport paths (1, 2) and the guide rollers (5, 6) move forward at the same speed. Thereafter, the guide rollers (5, 6) and the second conveyor belt (2) are momentarily accelerated, after which the guide rollers (5, 6) return to their original speed. The second conveyor belt (2) retains a higher speed until a necessary separation gap is created. Finally, the second conveyor belt (2) returns to its original speed while moving the guide rollers (5, 6) backward.
