En fremgangsmåte for å overvåke veggtykkelse i et objekt med en elektrisk ledende vegg ved å bruke en probe for pulset virvelstrøm omfattende en sender og en mottaker, idet fremgangsmåten omfatter valg av et inspeksjonssted på veggen; å anordne proben ved flere inspeksjonstidspunkter ?m (m=l, ..., M; M=2) i en bestemt posisjon i forhold til inspeksjonsstedet, å indusere transientvirvelstrømmer i objektet ved å aktivere senderen, å registrere signalene Vm i mottakeranordningen; og bestemme, ut fra hvert av signalene Vm, en veggtykkelse dm som er knyttet til inspeksjonstidspunktet ?m, idet temperaturen av objektet på inspeksjonsstedet ved inspeksjonstidspunktet ?m tas i betraktning.
