For example, the first parameter may be PP run time with the first data set as a raw PP data set, and the second parameter may be, for example, PS run time with the second data set as a raw PS data set or reflection depth. The invention makes it possible to identify pairs of corresponding PP and PS events in raw data mattresses. The look-up table (s) is obtained using an assumed model for the propagation rate of acoustic energy in the earth. The results of the method can be used in quality control, or can be used to correct the velocity model.
