Abstract

A process for producing a transparent polymer material with a low tendency to accumulate deposits comprises: a) immersing a transparent polymer matrix in a solution containing a solvent for swelling of the polymer matrix and a curable composition, the curable composition comprising: a polymerizable monomer containing at least a zwitterionic group; and a means for fouling the monomer, to swell the polymer matrix and impregnate it with the mixture; b) optionally removing the polymer matrix, swollen and impregnated with the mixture with the solution; and c) curing the mixture in the polymer matrix, the curing being carried out in the presence of a polymerization initiator present initially in the matrix or in the swelling solution. A transparent polymer material with low tendency for accumulation of deposits as well as contact lenses and implant materials comprising the material described above is further described.
