Abstract

The heat exchanger consists of three concentric tubes built together in such a manner that the space between the outer wall of the inner tube and the inner wall of the middle tube forms the flow passage for the liq. prod. and the central and outer spaces form the passage for the heat transfer medium. The central tube is so arranged that it can move backwards and forwards in an axial direction relative to the inner and outer tubes. This tube is either of prismatic cross-section, its movement then being purely linear, or circular in which case the tube reciprocates linearly and with a rotational movement relative to the two fixed tubes. The middle tube is driven by means of cranks which impart an irregular linear and rotational movement. The development of preferential flow paths and consequent stagnant zones in which solid deposits accumulate is avoided, and less cleaning is required.
