Abstract

An element consisting of refractory fibrous material is assembled into insulating linings and blocks for enclosing zones of high temp. Any commercially available ceramic fibre prod. capable of withstanding the operating temps. may be used, and the elements consist of at least one strip of a ceramic fibre blanket, folded in a "U" over a bowed hanger. The hangers are of heat resistant steel or wire. Pref. the element consists of two or more parallel running strips of ceramic blanket folded into a "U" over a bowed hanger. The folded ceramic blankets are held together compactly, covered and protected during transport and erection by an enclosing sheath of paper, board or other material which easily burns. The elements may be held together temporarily by a cord threaded through the blankets. Simplifies the method of installation of the insulating blocks eliminates the consequences of shrinkage in the ceramic fibrous material, and provides a strong fastening for the material with an anchorage which is protected against heat, the furnace atmosphere and corrosion.
