Abstract

An installation for cooling castings and cooling and drying moulding sand, comprises a driven drum. This has an inlet for the hot castings and damp moulding sand at one end, and an outlet for the cooled castings and dried sand at the other. A frame supports the inlet end of the drum, where suction arrangements for steam are located. The frame has the form of a rigid box provided with a mould inlet and a mould outlet joining the inlet of the drum. A steam outlet connects to the suction devices and the frame is reinforced by an internal box structure. A new and simple design for a familiar machine. The shape of the box gives the structure its rigidity so that the drum can support loads of 40,000 kgs. at the inlet.
