Abstract

An ornamental standing lamp with a light source in a housing supports a container for fluid. The bottom and walls of the container are partly transparent and it is filled with a fluid in which there are tinsel fragments of the sequin type. As the temp. of the fluid is raised, the glittering particles are moved by convection. The housing has cooling openings protected against the possibility of penetration by fluid running down the outerwalls, and a transparent, fluid tight cover for the housing is provided. This has a flange extending from its rim all round, which grips the top edge of the housing. Fluid is pref. a mixt. f 'dobanol 91' and polyethylene glycyl. Gliter is pref. PVC fragments with vapour deposited Al coating. Much saver than known lamps of this kind which become very hot so that they are easily knocked over as a reaction to the shock of accidental contact. the fluid container of existing lamps is liable to explode under the pressure generated, and release the poisonous trichlorethylene.
