Abstract

Prodn. of solid fuel blocks comprises mixing sawdust with molten wax, pouring the mixt. into moulds, cooling to room temp., and releasing the hardened blocks from the mould. The sawdust is pref. azobe sawdust with a particle size of 0.5 mm. The wax is pref. a bright stock slack wax. The blocks pref. also contain 1-10 wt % of Zn dross to promote gradual disintegration of the block as it burns. The blocks are pref. produced by mixing 1-10 pts. Zn dross and 40-60 pts. sawdust with molten wax (60-120 degrees C) to form 100 pts. of mixture. This is worked for 1-10 min. poured into a plastic tube (length 30 cm, dia. 10 cm), and a fuse is inserted. The blocks can be burnt in an open hearth. They burn quietly without producing sparks.
