Abstract
Lime-dust-bearing oxygen blast underfed to a converter is surrounded by screening gas. Pref. the screening gas is unreactive or inert. It may be hydrogen or hydrocarbon. The blast may be injected obliquely to the melt surface. Additional screened oxygen blasts may be injected.
