Abstract
Thermally insulating cohesive cover material is produced by (a) converting metal silicate fibres and/or zirconium oxide fibres and/or titanium dioxide fibres to a cohesive pdt. such as a fabric or fleece, (b) impregnating this pdt. with an aqs. colloidal silica sol. (c) gelling the soln. non-thermally in situ, and (d) opt. drying the cohesive pdt. Good resistance to high temps. High rigidity and mechanical strength. Uniform props. Easily sawed.
