MATTRESS BED BASE CONFIRMATION

The present invention relates to a system of an adjustable bed base and a mattress. An example of a bed base with mattress is the box spring combination, in which the bed base is made of spring and is referred to as a box.

Many types of such systems are known in practice. It is a trend in the field to place the known systems free-standing. The adjustable bed base then rests on a low frame. In embodiments in which a bed 10 is present, the adjustable bed base protrudes above the edge of the bed in the adjusted position. With the aforementioned systems, it is necessary to take measures to prevent the mattress from sliding off the bed base when it is adjusted.

It is known in practice to place a bracket at the foot end of the bed base to ensure that the mattress does not slide off the bed base when the bed base is adjusted. Such a bracket is unsightly despite the fact that it can be made upholstered in the colors of the bed. The known bracket is moreover experienced as a nuisance by users who want to be able to sit on the bed at the foot end.

The invention has for its object to provide a system of the type mentioned at the outset, which overcomes these disadvantages. To that end, the system according to the invention is characterized in that it is provided with means for releasably securing the mattress to the bed base.

As a result of the actual attachment of the mattress and the bed base to each other, the known bracket has become superfluous.

In a first preferred embodiment, the fixing means are arranged at the foot end. The applicant is of the opinion that attachment only at the foot end of the bed is sufficient to prevent the mattress from shifting relative to the bed base. After all, when adjusting, the greatest shear forces arise in the area of the foot end of the bed.

According to a further preferred embodiment, the fixing means extend over a considerable part of the width of the system. By allowing the fastening means to engage over the width of the bed base and the mattress, a robust fastening can be effected effectively.

In a further elaboration, the fastening means comprise an elongate element and fastening elements for releasably fastening the elongate element. An elongate element effectively covers a substantial part of the width of the bed base and the mattress.

In yet a further elaboration, the fixing means comprise a cover for receiving the elongate element. A cover can be unobtrusively integrated into the bed base or the mattress at relatively low production costs.

In a further preferred embodiment, the cover is arranged on the mattress and the fastening elements are arranged on the bed base.

In a practical embodiment, the fixing elements comprise clamping brackets. In yet a further practical embodiment, the elongate element is rod-shaped. By choosing a rod, clamping brackets and a cover, the fastening means from the system according to the invention can be realized at low costs.

Figure 1 shows a schematic view of a system 1 according to the invention. Figure 2 shows system 1 in an explosion view. System 1 comprises a bed base 2 with a mattress 3 on top. The bed base 2 is adjustable, electrically or manually. Bed base 2 has a considerable thickness, which is an indication that this is luxurious, for example resilient. Mattress 3 also has a considerable thickness and is also luxurious. The combination of a resilient bed base 2 with a luxury mattress 3 is known in the art under the term box spring. The box spring is included as an illustration in a casing or bed 10.

According to the invention, the mattress 3 and the bed base 2 are attached to each other in a detachable manner. In the preferred embodiment shown, the mattress 3 is provided with a cover 4. The cover is sewn and is preferably made from the same material as the mattress 3. The cover 4 is thus unobtrusively integrated in the mattress 3. In the cover 4 is an elongated object 5 stabbed.

In the preferred embodiment shown, the elongated object is a rod 5. The rod 5 is releasably attachable to the bed bottom 2. To this end, the bed bottom 2 is provided with two clamping brackets 6, into which the rod 5 can be received. As an alternative to the clamping brackets 6, other fastening elements suitable for the subject 3 can be used for releasably fastening the rod 5. An example of this are, for example, bushes through which the end of rod 5 can be inserted.

Figure 3 shows the fixing means included in more detail in the foot end of the system according to the invention. Figure 4 shows the fastening means according to the invention in exploded view.

According to the invention, the mattress and the bed base are releasably attached to each other so as to prevent an undesired shift of the mattress relative to the bed base when the bed base is adjusted. The fastening means according to the invention are unobtrusively integrated in the mattress and the bed base, so that they do not disturb the design of the bed. The fastening means are designed in an elegant manner so that they can nevertheless offer strong fastening. The fastening means are furthermore particularly user-friendly, since they can be released in relatively simple manner by means of quick operations. After all, it is sufficient to remove the bar from the clamping brackets and possibly remove the bar from the cover. The material of the cover can furthermore be adapted to the material of the mattress or the bed base.

The invention is explicitly not limited to the shown and described preferred embodiment. Various variants are conceivable, for an expert in the field after reading this text. The cover can, for example, be attached to the bed base and the clamping brackets to the mattress. Furthermore, both ends of the system, i.e. both the head end and the foot end, can be provided with a cover. Instead of one cover, two or more covers can also be used, which together extend over a considerable part of the width of the system. Those two or more covers can be arranged alternately on the bed base and on the mattress, so that the covers form a string system or "hinge" for the elongated object. It is even conceivable to use a different type of detachable fastening means. Some non-limiting examples are: Velcro, a zipper, a string system with a cord and loops or eyes etc. or a combination thereof. The invention therefore extends to all embodiments which fall within the protection of the appended claims viewed in the light of the description and the drawings.

System of an adjustable bed base and a mattress, characterized in that the system is provided with means for releasably securing the mattress to the bed base. System as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fixing means are arranged at the foot end. 3. System as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the fixing means extend over a considerable part of the width of the system. System as claimed in claim 3, wherein the fixing means comprise an elongate element and fixing elements for releasable fixing of the elongated element. 5. System as claimed in claim 4, wherein the fixing means comprise a cover for receiving the elongate element. System as claimed in claim 5, wherein the cover is arranged on the mattress and wherein the fixing elements are arranged on the bed base. 7. System as claimed in claim 4, wherein the fixing elements comprise clamping brackets. The system of claim 4, wherein the elongate element is rod-shaped. 9. Bed provided with a system according to one of the preceding claims.
