Abstract
Catheter tube with very small diameter and wall thickness is produced by winding a profiled pref. leaf steel wire (2) around a rotatable mandrel (1) to produce a tubular form (3). A pref. polyimide shrink-sleeve (5) located around a casing (4) is fed over the tubular form (3) and is shrunk onto the tubular form (3) by the application of heat from a heating element (7) to form a thin walled enclosing tube (6). The mandrel (1) is pref. ca. 1 mm diameter, the thickness of the profile (2) is pref. ca. 0.1 mm, and the shrink sleeve (5) a wall thickness of pref. 0.02 mm. The catheter body (8) has as a result a very small diameter with a relatively large bore (9).
