Abstract
The distraction of smartphones while participating in road traffic is a source of increasing insecurity that must be countered. We can physically block / limit the distraction by having the driver log in to a car. This can already be achieved using current techniques that we combine. We can build in new technologies in cars, smartphones or mobile networks. Whether or not 'logged in' driving is recorded. We can encourage logging in via family members, employers, passengers. We can penalize not logging in (higher insurance premiums, no coverage). The ultimate goal is to physically block driving without being logged in, and / or to physically block the smartphone during not logged in driving a car.
Description
The invention relates to making car traffic safer. Where the screening of distracting functions on a bobile device in the broad sense (we are talking about a smartphone) is encouraged / mandatory for the driver. The driver must 'log in' to a car for this. Firstly, the invention makes use of universally available techniques, which are combined in an innovative manner. Ultimately, however, the technology will have to be integrated. The car industry, mobile providers and / or smartphone providers can play a role separately or jointly.
Huidige technieken:Current techniques:
Since 2001, every automobile has been compulsorily equipped with an ODB2 connection. This connection makes it possible to read malfunctions, but also provides real-time insight into the car, and therefore also whether the car is driving and at what speed.
The aim is to connect the driver's smartphone in a moving car, using a new ODB2 connector and an app with login.
A universal mobile device is always connected to the OBD2 via a universal connection (Bluetooth, WiFi, but can also be wired). This smartphone has a unique app (which puts the relevant smartphone in 'safe driving' mode. In addition, distracting messages and apps are deactivated. And permitted apps (such as navigation) are limited in their capabilities while driving. The aim is safer road traffic. .
With the current state of technology it is possible to stimulate the use of the OBD2 connection. Via 'social pressure' from passengers, family, employers and / or campaigns. Or financial pressure from insurers.
A uniquely manufactured ODB2 module can also issue warning signals (as with forgotten seat belts) to make the connection with the smartphone. In addition, keeping / logging the connection between car and smartphone (in ODB2 connector or in app) is an extra stimulus. Positive approach: Of the 200 km you drove 190 km safely ... congratulations can be chosen. Or the punitive approach. Your car drove more than 25% of the km without a login this month. We will calculate a surcharge on your premium. Or even harder, such as alcohol abuse or speed races: there is simply no cover if you drive without a connection.
Auto-industrieCar industry
Verbinding via Bluetooth is veelal standaard. Installing the connection with the driver's smartphone is a software adjustment. Connection via Bluetooth is usually standard. The login can only be done once, and when the driver is recognized it is then automatically arranged. The advantage is that it can even contain a immobilizer, which makes it physically impossible to drive if at least one smartphone is not connected and is in safe mode.
Mobiele providersMobile providers
Daarbij is alle functionaliteit direct beperkt. Mobile providers have insight into the location of smartphones and the speed at which they move. Disabling the 4G data when not logged in and moving the device at more than x km / h is an option. In addition, all functionality is immediately limited. By logging into a car, the 4G data can be activated to activate navigation and other permitted apps.
Smartphone aanbiedersSmartphone providers
By combining the speed detection with the possibility to log in to a 'car', it is possible to make smartphones safer by default via standard system settings or apps.
Veilig rijden modusSafe driving mode
Limiting the functionality of apps / smartphones is necessary to make traffic safer, by less / not distracting drivers. The definition of safe is not a given. Where adapted options, blocked options, voice control depending on the speed, location, insurance or legal requirements can be adjusted per country, situation or time.
PassagiersPassengers
Only one smartphone needs to be logged in per car. If a passenger is also logged in (and therefore also connected to the car), this smartphone can be used to, for example, set the navigation of the driver (I will search for a petrol station), where the 55 address found is then automatically set on the driver's smartphone. If telephones / networks are provided with physical blockages, these will of course be lifted as soon as one driver is logged into the respective car.
