Abstract

A riser gas handling (RGH) system and managed pressure drilling (MPD) system, comprising a riser flow spool (134), a riser isolation device (136) and an upper riser disconnect assembly (150). The riser tension ring (124) is placed between the riser flow spool (134) and the upper riser disconnect assembly (150). This arrangement maximises the range of motion in the telescopic slip joint (114) while keeping the upper riser disconnect easily accessible by being close to the surface. Methods of installing the riser gas handling system on a subsea riser and for converting an existing marine riser for RHG operations are covered as well as a method for installing and recovering a rotary control device (260) with the RGH.
