Abstract
TThe present invention provides a surveillance system (100) for an area under surveillance, the surveillance system (100) having a plurality of surveillance cameras (122) installed within the area. The surveillance 5 system (100) comprises a three dimensional (3D) computer generated (CG) model (132) modeling the area under surveillance with locations of all the plurality of surveillance cameras (122) marked therein, a navigation unit (140) for controlling orientations of the 3D CG model (132) for showing on a display screen (130); a detection unit (150) for acquiring orientation information from the navigation unit (140); and a processing unit (110) for receiving the orientation information from the detection unit (150), wherein the orientation information is processed and associated to the orientations of the 3D CG model (132) in a manner that the orientation of the 3D CG model (132) shown on the 15 display screen (130) is directly controlled through the navigation unit (140) in real-time. A method for controlling the surveillance system is also provided herewith.
