THE INVENTION RELATES TO A SECURITY ELEMENT (3) FOR A DOCUMENT OF VALUE, SUCH AS BANK NOTES, IDENTIFICATION CARDS OR THE LIKE, WITH A TRANSPARENT SUBSTRATE ON THE FIRST SURFACE OF WHICH AT LEAST ONE FIRST SECURITY FEATURE AND ON THE SECOND, OPPOSITE SURFACE OF WHICH AT LEAST ONE SECOND SECURITY FEATURE IS ARRANGED. ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION THE FIRST SECURITY FEATURE HAS SPACED-APART, OPAQUE BASIC PATTERN ELEMENTS WHICH ARE ARRANGED IN THE FASHION OF A GRID. ON AT LEAST A PART OF THE BASIC PATTERN ELEMENTS ON THE SIDE FACING AWAY FROM THE TRANSPARENT SUBSTRATE FIRST INFORMATION ELEMENTS (6) ARE ARRANGED THAT CONTRAST IN COLOR WITH THE BASIC PATTERN ELEMENTS (5.1). THE SECOND SECURITY FEATURE HAS SECOND INFORMATION ELEMENTS (7) THAT ARE ARRANGED SO THAT THEY OVERLAP WITH THE BASIC PATTERN ELEMENTS (5.1) AND EXTEND BEYOND AT LEAST ONE SIDE OF THE RESPECTIVE BASIC PATTERN ELEMENT, THE SECOND INFORMATION ELEMENTS (7) ALSO CONTRASTING IN COLOR WITH THE BASIC PATTERN ELEMENTS(5.1).
