Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for classifying Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. The method applies Time Varying Autoregressive (TVAR) model to EEG signal to perform non-stationary spectral analysis by generating instantaneous estimates of power spectrum and thus, providing high time-frequency resolution. Furthermore, the method uses Kalman Filter (KF) based estimation with Kalman Smoother (KS) algorithm to infer more accurate estimates, wherein it provides better tracking ability and reduces noise in classifying EEG signal. In conjunction with KS algorithm, EEG signal is classified based on selection of maximum likelihood using Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm.
