Abstract
The present invention describes an anaerobic digestion system for palm oil mill effluent (POME) wastewater treatment, said system comprising: (a) feeding POME wastewater from a feeder tank (101) to an anaerobic digester (102), the anaerobic digester digests the POME wastewater and produces digestate along with biogas; (b) pumping the digestate from the anaerobic digester (102) to an ultrasonicated membrane module (104), said ultrasonicated membrane module (104) removes suspended solids from the digestate, and wherein the ultrasonicated membrane module (104) comprises a membrane provided with ultrasonic transducers to curtail membrane fouling. The present invention is useful to treat all wastewater types such as sewage sludge, beet sugar, sugar cane waste as well as slaughterhouse wastewater, in addition to POME. Figure 1
