Abstract
A BEAM OF LIGHT SCANNING THE DATA ON AN OPTICAL RECORDING GENERATES AN HF SIGNAL INRECORDING- AND- PLAYBACK EQUIPMENT. SINCE THE HF SIGNAL COLLAPSES WHEN THE LIGHT BEAM LEAVES A DATA TRACK, THE DETECTION CIRCUIT DETERMINES FROM THE LEVEL OF THE HF SIGNAL WHETHER THE BEAM IS SKIPPING FROM ONE TRACK TO THE NEXT.SINCE THE BREAKDOWNS OF THE HF SIGNAL CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY DIRT ON, DAMAGE TO, OR IMPERFERFECTIONS IN THE RECORDING, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DEFINITELY DETERMINE WHETHER AN HF BREAKDOWN IS CAUSED BY A TRACK CHANGE OR BY DIRT, DAMAGE OR IMPERFECTIONS.TO RELIABLY RECOGNIZE A CHANGE OF TRACK CHANGE WHEN THE HF SIGNAL (HF) IS BELOW A PRESCRIBED THRESHOLD (R1) AND A TRACKING - ERROR SIGNAL (TE) IS SIMULTANEOUSLY ABOVE ANOTHER PRESCRIBED THRESHOLD (R2).(FIG.6)
