Abstract
THE INVENTION PROVIDES A METHOD FOR OXIDIZING AN OXIDIZABLE CHARGE IN THE GAS PHASE AND A REACTOR FOR IMPLEMENTING THIS METHOD, WHICH COMPRISES THE FOLLOWING STEPS: (A) THE OXIDIZABLE CHARGE AND THE OXIDIZING GAS ARE FED INTO A DISPERSION ZONE ENTIRELY FILLED WITH PARTICULATE ELEMENTS MADE FROM CERAMIC MATERIAL HAVING DIMENSIONS SUCH THAT THE SPACES OR FREE PASSAGES BETWEEN SAID ELEMENTS HAVE, IN AT LEAST ONE DIRECTION, A DIMENSION AT MOST EQUAL TO THE DISTANCE FOR QUENCHING THE FLAME WHICH MAY RESULT FROM OXIDATION OF SAID CHARGE BY SAID OXIDIZING GAS, SAID CHARGE AND SAID GAS BEING FED INTO SAID DISPERSION ZONE THROUGH AT LEAST ONE GAS ACCELERATION MEANS EMBEDDED IN SAID PARTICULATE ELEMENTS, MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN A GAS SPEED AT THE OUTLET OF SAID ACCELERATION MEANS OF AT LEAST 10MX S-1, AND (B) CAUSING THE GAS MIXTURE FROM STEP (A) TO REACT IN A CERAMIC MATERIAL REACTION ZONE COMPRISING A MULTIPLICITY OF SPACES OFFERING PASSAGES HAVING, AT LEAST IN ONE DIRECTION, A DIMENSION AT MOST EQUAL FLAME QUENCHING DISTANCE, THE INTERZONE DISTANCE BEING AT MOST EQUAL TO SAID FLAME QUENCHING DISTANCE.
