Description

RASURADORA THAT HAS TWO SLIDING SHAVING HEADS FIELD OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to safety razors and, more specifically, to shavers provided with two shaving heads.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Various attempts have been made to propose a razor that includes at least two shaving heads having different sizes to allow shaving different hairy areas of the body. U.S. Patent No. 4,461,078, issued to Carreker, discloses a shaver assembly including first and second handle portions, with first and second shaving heads mounted on the ends of the handle portions. The handle portions are pivotally mounted to each other, so that the heads can be moved from a position in which the handle portions are substantially in a straight line, with the heads widely spaced, to a position in which the handle portions they form a small acute angle, with their heads close to each other. U.S. Patent No. 4,285,124, issued to Diakonov, discloses a safety razor comprising a normal-sized shaving head and a retractable, miniature shaving head that can be moved from a first position in which it is retracted behind the head of normal size, to a second position in which it is deployed above the head of normal size, for use in trimming the area below the center of the user's nose. A disadvantage of such razors is that their use is not totally safe. The user must be very careful not to cut with a shaver head while using the other. Another disadvantage of the Carreker shaver is that its handle has a length that is almost double that of a standard shaver handle, which hinders the comfortable grip of the handle.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide a shaver having two shaving heads, the use of which is safer. It is another object of the invention to provide a shaver whose use is more comfortable. The shaver according to the invention comprises: a hollow, elongated handle having a longitudinal axis; the handle having a front end and a rear end opposite the front end; • a first shaving head and a second shaving head, both mounted on a support that is mounted on the handle and is slidable with respect to it, following a direction substantially parallel to the axis of the handle, between at least: or a first position of use , wherein the first shaving head projects outwardly from the front end of the handle, to allow it to shave, while the second head is housed within the handle; and or a second position of use, wherein the second shaving head projects outwardly from the rear end of the handle to allow it to shave, while the first shaving head is housed within the handle; • a manually operable actuator, mounted on the support, to move it from one position to the other. Consequently, while one head is in the position of use, the other is substantially out of reach, thereby decreasing the risk of the user cutting off. The shaver according to the invention is also compact, which allows a comfortable grip, while shaving. According to a preferred embodiment, the support is able to occupy a third position or intermediate position, in which both shaving heads are housed inside the handle. The shaver may comprise means for locking said support in its first position of use, or in its second position of use or in the intermediate position. Said locking means may be provided at least partially in the manually operable actuator. Preferably the actuator comprises a hollow body and a pulsator provided with arms capable of being secured in grooves provided in the handle. The push button is slidable with respect to the body, between a locking position, in which the arms are received in the slots, and an unlocking position, in which the arms are located out of the slots. Preferably the shaver comprises a compression spring that permanently forces the pusher towards its locking position. Additionally, the handle may comprise two longitudinal rails cooperating slidably with the support, so as to guide it during the movement. Preferably the shaving heads have different sizes, in order to allow different hairy areas of the body to be shaved. In a preferred embodiment, wherein each shaving head consists of a removable cartridge, the shaver comprises a locking and releasing mechanism for discarding and replacing each shaving head. Each locking and releasing mechanism is mounted on the support, at one of its ends, and comprises: • a resilient V-shaped retainer, which has two legs provided with support members for mounting a shaving head; having the lateral fin legs; • a plunger; • a spring that forcibly carries the plunger towards the shaving head; • a cam member for forcing the legs of the retainer away from each other; the shaver further comprising a pair of actuators for firing the lock-and-release mechanism; each actuator comprising: • a first spring member having a fixed portion connected to the handle and a flexible portion; • a button accessible to the fingers of a user, and which cooperates with the flexible portion; so that, in a position of use, the lateral fins cooperate with the flexible portion (thereby allowing to discard and replace the shaving head), while, in the intermediate position or in the other position of use, the lateral fins cooperate with the fixed portion (thus preventing the shaving head from being discarded). In a preferred embodiment, wherein the handle comprises an upper cover member and a lower cover member, in addition to its triggering function, the spring members form fastening members to hold the cover members together. More precisely, the fixed portion of each spring member comprises a pair of holes cooperating with hooks formed in the upper cover member and the lower cover member, respectively. Additionally, the shaver may comprise a movable or flexible cover that covers each end of the handle when the corresponding shaving head is housed within the handle. The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the detailed description of preferred embodiments of the invention, considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

Figure 12 is a view similar to Figure 8, showing the shaver in a second position of use. Figure 13 is a top perspective view showing a lock and release mechanism for the shaver of the preceding figures, in an intermediate position. Figure 14 is a view similar to Figure 13, showing the lock and release mechanism, in a first position of use. Figure 1 5 is a top plan view showing a fastener for the shaver of the preceding figures. Figure 16 is an exploded perspective view showing the fastener of Figure 15 and the shaver of the preceding figures. Figure 17 is a perspective view showing the assembly of the fastener of Figures 15 and 16 and the shaver of the preceding figures. Figure 18 is a top plan view of the assembly of Figure 17. A shaver according to the invention is generally indicated by reference numeral 1 in the drawings. The shaver 1 comprises a handle 2 which is elongated along a longitudinal axis x. The handle 2 is hollow, so that it forms a housing defining an open front end 3 and an opposite rear end, open 4. It has a central constriction 5 and presents, in side view, an arched shape, which provides a comfortable manual grip. Therefore, the handle axis x can be considered as an average arched line joining the center points of the open ends 3, 4. The shaver 1 further comprises a first shaver blade unit or head 6, which includes one or more blades (three, in the illustrated example) and which is mounted on the front end 3 of the handle 2, so that the edges of the blades are substantially perpendicular to the axis x of the handle. The first head 6 is movable with respect to the control 2 following a direction substantially parallel to the axis x of the handle, between: a position of use, in which the head 6 projects outwardly from the front end 3 of the handle 2 (FIGS. 1, 11), and • a retracted position in which the head 6 is housed within the housing formed inside the handle 2 (figures 2, 3, 6, 8, 12). In the position of use, the first head 6 is ready for use, to allow it to shave, while in the retracted position it is hidden in the handle 2, so that it is not operable and is substantially out of reach for the fingers they are protected against damage and they are prevented from being accidentally cut. As illustrated in Figure 5, the shaver 1 also comprises a second blade or head unit 7 comprising one or more blades (two, in the illustrated example) and which is mounted on the rear end 4 of the handle 2, so that the edges of the blades are substantially perpendicular to the axis x of the handle. In other words, the first head 6 and the second head 7 extend substantially parallel to each other. The heads 6, 7 preferably have different sizes; the first 6 has a standard width W6, while the second 7 has a width W7 that is smaller than W6 (see figures 1 and 3). The standard head 6 is used for normal shaving (beard, legs), while the narrow head 7 is dimensioned for easy maneuverability in order to facilitate precise trimming of particular hairy areas, for example, whiskers, whiskers or pubic hairs. Like the standard head 6, the narrow head 7 is movable with respect to the handle 2, following a direction parallel to the handle axis x, between: a position of use, in which the narrow head 7 projects outwardly from the end rear 4 of handle 2 (figures 3, 12); and • a retracted position, in which the narrow head 7 is housed within the housing formed by the handle 2 (figures 1, 2, 6, 1 1). In its use position, the narrow head 7 is ready for use to allow it to shave, while in the retracted position it is hidden in the handle 2, so that it is inoperable and unreachable with the fingers to protect against damage and it is avoided that they are cut accidentally. Both heads 6, 7 are mounted on a common support or platform member 8, which, in turn, is mounted on the handle 2, so that it can slide securely relative to it, between: • a first position (FIG. 11), in which the standard head 6 is in its position of use, while the narrow head 7 is in its retracted position; • a second position of use (Figure 12), in which the standard head 6 is in its retracted position, while the narrow head 7 is in its position of use; and • an intermediate position (figures 6, 8, 9) in which both shaving heads 6, 7 are in their retracted position (figures 6, 8). As illustrated in Figure 5, the handle 2 comprises a lower cover member 9 and an upper cover member 10, which are permanently fixed to each other, and enclose the sliding platform member together. Figure 8 is a top perspective view of the shaver 1, from which the upper cover member 10 has been separated to show the interior of the shaver 1. In turn, Figure 9 is a bottom perspective view of the shaver 1, from which the lower cover member 9 has been removed to show the interior of the shaver 1. As illustrated in Figure 8, the platform member 8 comprises an elongated arched plate member 1 1 having substantially the same curvature as the handle 2. The platform member 8 comprises a longitudinal reinforcement rib 12 and two transverse ribs 1 314, spaced, protruding from an upper surface 1 5 of the plate member 1 1, and also a hollow central housing 16 defined, on the one hand, by a pair of opposite transverse walls 1 7, 1 8, projecting from the upper surface 1 5 and, on the other hand, by a pair of opposite longitudinal side walls 19, 20, also protruding from the upper surface 16, in the continuity of the transverse walls 17, 18. A flat guide plate 21 and arc is secured in the platform member 8. More precisely, the guide plate 21 is provided with a central hole 22, whose edge cooperates with hooks 23, 24, projecting from the transverse walls 1 7, 1 8. The plate guide 21 has a lower surface 25 which is in contact with an upper edge 26 of the reinforcement ribs 12, 13, 14, thereby providing a stable mounting of the guide plate 21 on the platform member 8. The member of platform 8 comprises also a pair of parallel ribs 27, 28, projecting from a lower surface 29 of the platform member 8, and extending longitudinally, substantially along the entire length of the platform member 8. As illustrated in Figure 5, the The handle 2 is provided with means for guiding the sliding platform member 8, comprising two parallel and extended lower rails 30, 31 projecting from an inner lower surface 32 of the lower cover member 9, and extending along the length of the lower cover member 9. each lateral side of the pair of parallel ribs 27, 28. The guiding means also comprise two elongated, parallel upper rails 33, 34 projecting from the upper inner surface 35 of the upper cover member 10, extending along the side edges of the guide plate 21. As a result, the platform member 8 is slidably guided in an accurate manner between the lower cover member 9 and the upper cover member 10. The shaver 1 further comprises a manually operable actuator 36, which is slidable with respect to the upper cover member 10, following a direction substantially parallel to the axis x of the handle, to move the platform member 8 from one position to the other. As illustrated in Figure 8, the actuator 36 is mounted on the platform member and comprises a cylindrical hollow body 37, having four flexible parallel projecting ears 38 which pass through a central opening 39, defined in the member. of platform 8 by the housing 16. The ears 38 are provided with hooks 40 that engage with longitudinal bridge members 41, which extend through the central opening 39, so that the actuator 36 is secured on the platform member 8. The hollow body 37 of the actuator 36 passes through an elongated opening 42 that is formed in the upper cover member 10, between the upper rails 33, 34. The actuator 36 also has a substantially flat head 43, which is projects, at one end of the body 37 opposite the ears 38, from an upper external surface 44 of the upper cover member 1 0.
The head comprises a depression 45 for receiving a finger (for example, the thumb) of a user, to help him grasp the actuator 36. The actuator 36 also comprises a release button 43 that includes a push-button 47 that is slidably mounted on the body 37, along an elevation axis Y, substantially perpendicular to the axis of the handle x. The push button 47 has a main body 48 mounted in a corresponding hole 49, formed in the body 37 of the actuator 36, and diametrically opposed transverse arms 50, 51 projecting laterally from the main body 48, and which are received in lateral grooves. respective 52, formed in the longitudinal side walls 1, 9, 20 of the housing 16. The release button 46 also includes a cover member 53 projecting from the depression 45, to be accessible to a user's finger, and which is secured in the push button 47 by means of hooks 54 cooperating with corresponding shoulder surfaces 55, formed in the main body 48 of the push-button 47. The push-button 47 is slidable with respect to the body 37 following the lifting axis Y, between a locking position, in that the push button 47 is at a distance from the plate member 1 1, the cover member 53 projecting from the depression 45, and an unlocking position in which The pusher 47 is near the plate member 1 1, the cover member 53 being received, at least partially, within the depression 45. The button 47 comprises a cylindrical pin 56 in the continuity of the main body 48, in the other side of the transverse arms 50, 51, so that the pusher 47 is substantially cruciform. A return spring 57 is mounted in compression between the push button 47 and the platform member 8, so as to permanently push the push button 47 towards its locking position. More precisely, the spring 57 has a lower end 58 which is mounted on a pin 59 protruding from the plate 1 1, and an upper end 60 which is mounted on the pin 56 of the push button 47, thereby forming the pins 56 , 59 together, spring guide means. As illustrated in Figure 10, each rail 33, 34 is provided with three spaced slots 61, 62, 63, in which the transverse arms 50, 51 are capable of being received, depending on the position of the actuator 36, i.e. , a front end slot 61, located near the front end 3 of the handle 2, a rear end slot 62, located near the rear end 4, and an intermediate slot 63, located between the front end slot 61 and the rear end slot 62. As illustrated in Figure 9, in the intermediate position of the actuator 36, the arms 50, 51, which act as locking means for locking the platform member 8 in position, are received in the intermediate slots 63. In that position, the platform member 8 is in its intermediate position, both shaving heads 6, 7 being received inside the handle 2. Since the spring 57 forces the push button 47 to its locking position, the arms 50, 51 bump longitudinally on the transverse shoulder surfaces of the intermediate grooves 63, thereby preventing the platform member 8 from moving longitudinally. Whenever the user wishes to remove any of the shaving heads 6, 7, he presses the release button 46 against the action of the return spring 57, thereby releasing the arms 50, 51, of the intermediate slot 63. Then the user is in ability to slide the actuator 36 in any of the directions, with respect to the handle 2, in order to move the platform member 8 towards the first or the second positions of use. During movement of the platform member 8 to any of the first or second use positions, the platform member 8, which is accurately guided by the upper and lower rails 30, 31, 33, 34, as described above., the arms 50, 51 slide over the edges 64 of the upper rails 33, 34, thereby maintaining the push-button 47 in its unlocking position. As soon as the arms 50, 51 are in front of, for example, the front end slot 61, the return spring 57 suddenly moves the push button 47 towards its locking position, where the arms 50, 51 are secured in the front end slots. 61, thereby locking the platform member 8 into its first position of use. Respectively, as soon as the arms 50, 51 are in front of the rear end slot 62, the spring 57 suddenly moves the push button 47 towards its locking position, where the arms 50, 51 are secured in the rear end slots 62, with that the platform member 8 is locked in its second position of use. Consequently, whatever the position of the platform member 8, it is strongly held in position with respect to the handle 2, thereby preventing the heads 6, 7 from accidentally moving from one position to the other. Consequently, there is little risk of a user cutting off one head while shaving with the other. Further, since the actuator 36 is on an upper side of the shaver 1, there is also little risk that, during shaving, the user's fingers, which hold the shaver 1 by its side faces, accidentally move the actuator 36. This further increases the safety of the shaver 1. In addition, whatever the position of the platform member 8, the arcuate flat guide plate 1 1 always covers the elongated aperture 42, thereby preventing visual access to the technical parts within the handle 2 and, therefore, improves the visual aspect of the shaver 1. Additionally, each shaving head 6, 7 consists of a replaceable cartridge, which is detachably connected to the platform member 8, so that, after the blades of the blades become blunt, the cartridges 6, 7 are discarded and replaced by new ones. . In order to obtain the replacement of the shaving heads 6, 7, the shaver 1 includes two locking and unlocking mechanisms 65, mounted respectively on seats 66, 67, provided on both ends of the platform member 8. Each mechanism 65 of locking and release includes a resilient V-shaped retainer 68, which has two movable legs 69, 70 in approach and away from each other. Support members 71 are formed at the ends of the legs 69, 70, releasably attached to corresponding curved hooks 72, provided on the rear side of the corresponding razor head 6, 7, to allow oscillating movement of the shaving head 6 7, with respect to the platform member 8. A cam member 73 is mounted between the legs 69, 70 to force them permanently away from each other, in order to maintain the support members 71 in cooperation with the corresponding hooks 72. A piston 74 is also mounted between the legs 69, 70, a front portion 75 of which is in contact with a V-shaped cam surface provided on the rear side of the shaving head 6, 7. A compression spring 76 , interposed between the plunger 74 and the cam member 73, forcibly carries them away from each other, thereby further pushing the plunger 74 to maintain permanent contact thereof with the shaving head 6, 7, and pushing back the member of cam 73 to maintain permanent contact thereof with the legs 69, 70. The locking and releasing mechanism 65 is triggered by actuators 77 mounted near the ends 3, 4 of the handle 2. Each actuator 77 includes a button 78 which is mounted in a flexible front portion 79 of a flat metallic spring member 80, a fixed rear portion 81 of which is rigidly held in notches 82, 83 formed in side walls 84, 85 of the cover members i lower and upper 9, 10. The front portion 79 of each flat spring member 80 extends longitudinally through an oval-shaped side opening 86 formed in the vicinity of each end of the handle by complementary cut-outs 87, 88 in the members 9, 10 of cover. Each spring member 80 is provided with two rectangular holes formed in the fixed rear portion, that is, a lower hole 89, which cooperates with a hook 90 formed in the side wall 84 of the lower cover member 9, and an upper hole 91. which cooperates with a hook 92 formed in the side wall 85 of the upper cover member 10. The spring members 80 thus form fastener members that hold the lower and upper cover members 9, 10 together. Each button 78 has an oval-shaped main body 93, which extends transverse through the opening 86 that goes to accessible to the user's fingers, and a base portion 94 having a flat surface 95 directed inwardly, in contact with the front portion 79 of the spring member 80, and an outwardly facing shoulder surface 96 that abuts against a inner edge of the opening 86. Each leg 69, 70 has a fin 97 protruding transversely, one end of which is in contact with an internal surface 98 of the flat spring member 80. As illustrated in Figure 8, each locking and unlocking mechanism 65 is connected to the platform member 8 by means of a cover member 99, which is secured on the platform member 8, thereby sandwiching the mechanism 65 of lock and release and keep it in place. More precisely, the lid member 99 comprises side flanges 1 00 provided with openings 101, whose edges cooperate with corresponding hooks 1 02 provided in the platform member 8. There are formed cutouts 103 in the side walls of the cover member 99 for the free passage of the fins 97. Longitudinal notches 104, 105 are formed in the cover member 99 and in the platform member 8, cooperating with corresponding ribs 106, provided on the plunger 74, in order to guide the forward movement and recoil of this one. In the position of use, in which the shaver head 6 or 7 protrudes from the corresponding end 3 or 4 of the handle 2, the wings 97 make contact with the flexible front portion 79 of the flat spring member 80, so that under the manual action, the movement of the buttons 78 toward each other, forces the legs 69, 70, by means of the wings 97, thereby releasing the support members 71 from the hooks 72, while the forward movement of the piston 74 under the action of the spring 76, ejects the shaving head 6 or 7, and allows it to be discarded and replaced. In the intermediate position or in the other position of use of the platform member 8, in which the shaving head 6 or 7 is received inside the handle 2, the wings 97 make contact with the fixed rear portion 81 of the flat spring member 80 , so that the movement of the buttons 78 has no effect on the legs 69, 70, thereby preventing it from being discarded and replacing the shaving head 6 or 7 when it is not in the use position. By making it possible to replace a shaving head only when it is in its position of use, it is prevented that any wrong action on the buttons accidentally ejects the head when it is not necessary to discard or replace it. As illustrated in Figures 16 and 17, the shaver 1 can be detachably mounted on a shaver carrier 107 to form a shaving system 1 08. The carrier 1 07 has a flat rear wall 1 09 for attachment to a wall 1 1 0, for example, a wall of a bath or a shower, by means of a double-sided adhesive pad, a suction pacifier or any other suitable equivalent means. The carrier 1 07 comprises lateral fins 1 1 1, 1 12, to be coupled with the shaver handle 2, the vanes 1 1 1, 1 12 forming a V-shaped seat against which a complementary lateral surface 1 13 of the handle 2, located in the vicinity of the central constriction 5. As shown in Figure 15, the fins 11, 12 are curved towards each other, so that they follow the curvature of the lateral surface 13, and firmly retain the razor 2 by simple mutual locking vertical. In the aforementioned embodiment both ends 3, 4 of the handle 2 are permanently open. However, in optional modalities they may be at least partially and / or temporarily covered by cover members. In a first optional embodiment the shaver is provided with movable flaps which are slidably mounted on the handle, under the control of the platform actuator, between: a closed position, wherein each flap covers a corresponding end of the handle, so that annual access to the blades is prevented and the inside of the handle is protected (particularly against dust and moisture); and • an open position, in which each flap discovers the corresponding end, so as to allow the shaving head to project out of the end. In a second optional embodiment the shaver is provided with manually removable covers, which are mounted on the ends of the handle provided that the corresponding shaving heads are in the retracted position, in order to prevent manual access to the blade and protect the inside of the handle . As soon as the user needs to use one of the shaving heads, he simply has to remove the corresponding lid. In a third optional embodiment, each end of the shaver handle is provided with a flexible end wall, (e.g., made of thermoplastic or rubber material) that allows the corresponding shaver head to pass through it when moved from its position of use to its retracted position, and vice versa.
For example, this end wall is provided with a central slot, through which the corresponding shaving head is able to pass while distorting the wall. The terminal wall forms a shield that prevents manual access to the blades and protects the interior of the handle, in particular against dust and moisture.
