Description
ROLLED CARRIAGE UNIT ADAPTER WITHOUT NUCLEUS STACKABLE FOR SUPPLIES
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to adapters for spouts, of rolled material, and more particularly to adapters for spouts of rolled material which allow a dispenser of rolls of core material to supply rolls of coreless material.
BACKGROUND
Consumer and commercial absorbent paper products such as bathroom tissue and paper towels are typically distributed and supplied in the form of a roll, and almost always include a hollow cylindrical core around which the product is rolled. Although the core can be formed of many different materials, the core is often formed of some type of cardboard, which can be glued together and also glued to the product so that the core remains intact and the product is not separated from the core. The product is then stocked by mounting the roll on an axis such as can be found in a common bathroom toilet roll dispenser, which passes through or otherwise penetrates the interior space of the core. Some dispensers include barbs that penetrate the hollow space within the core for only a limited extent, as demonstrated in US Pat. Nos. 390,084 and 2,905,404 to Lane and Simmons, respectively.
Dispensers of rolls of core paper material, such as tissue rolls for bathroom are also known in the art. With typical conventional dispensers, two rolls of tissue are oriented vertically within the spout so that the top roll falls into a dispensing position when the bottom roll is depleted. Generally, these jets are configured for conventional cored rolls incorporating a shaft or hollow core which extends through the roll, the ends of the shaft engage the grooves or paths which are defined on the interior surfaces of the jets.
A recent development in the rolled paper products industry is that of rolls of solid or "coreless" material such as tissue paper for bathroom. These solid or coreless rolls do not contain a hollow shaft or a hollow core of any kind. In many cases, these solid or non-core rolls are formed of material which is wound through the diameter of the roll. In such rolls, a recess or stopper can be formed on each side of the paper roll which defines a rotation axis for the roll.
As used herein, the term "coreless rolls" further includes those rolls which are formed of a material which is essentially, but not completely, wound through the diameter of the roll. A coreless roll which is wound essentially through its diameter would lack a conventional plastic or cardboard core but would still incorporate a central opening through the roll in the center of the roll along the length of the winding axis. Coreless rolls of this type are described, for example, in U.S. Patent Nos. 5,669,576; 5,467,936; 5,387,284; 5,281,386; 5,271, 575 and 5,271, 137.
The coreless rolls described by these patents are formed by winding the material around a mandrel and then removing the roll from the mandrel so that the roll includes a central opening which extends completely through the width of the roll along the length of the roll. winding shaft. The central opening can generally serve as a recess or mounting retainer even though its depth will be the full length of the central opening along the winding axis. Therefore, the depth of such a mounting hole would be equal to the full width of the coreless roll.
As used herein, the "width" of the roll refers to the distance between a first flat end of the coreless roll defining a mounting hole and a second flat end of the coreless roll defining a mounting hole. Desirably, each mounting end of the coreless roll defines a mounting hole in essentially the center of the winding axis of the roll and at least one, and desirably each mounting hole has a depth and has sides generally perpendicular to the end of the roll, sides being separated by a distance that is less than the depth of the hole.
There are advantages and disadvantages associated with coreless rolls. Coreless rolls are ecologically superior to core rolls because no adhesive materials are used or discarded to make the product. In addition, more product can be provided in the space that would otherwise be occupied by the kernel. Core rolls are more expensive to manufacture than coreless rolls because of the cost of making the cores and joining the cores to the product. In addition, coreless rolls have the advantage of being subjected to less pillage in commercial locations due to their inherent incompatibility with conventional dispensers.
A disadvantage of rolls without cores is that conventional pumps are unable to supply rolls without core or multiple solids because they do not hold the coreless rolls inside the jets and keep the rolls in proper alignment. Therefore, when a user wishes to change from conventional rolls that incorporate a shaft or hollow core to coreless rolls, a new dispenser must be purchased and installed. To avoid this additional cost and work, an adapter is required which allows a user to easily and inexpensively adapt a conventional roll dispenser to supply rolls without core material.
SYNTHESIS OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is directed to an adapter for a vertically stacked dual roll dispenser. The adapter includes, selected incorporations, a frame which fits within a spout of rolls of conventional core material. The selected incorporations, the frame may include a base and a pair of spaced apart lateral rails, each side rail extends upwardly from the base. In such an embodiment, a rear support can also be provided which extends upwardly from the base and can be positioned with respect to the side rails to form a channel. In some embodiments, a top rail may be provided which extends between and is attached to an upper portion of each of the spaced apart lateral rails and to the rear support.
At least one support unit is provided in the present invention, each support unit has a pair of spaced apart arms. In certain embodiments, a transverse bar may be provided which may extend between the spaced apart arms. Each arm "may include an outer surface and an inner surface, an outer bolt may be placed on the outer surface of each arm, the outer bolt is configured to engage slidably in the spout. In certain embodiments, the outer bolt may engage a channel Within the spout, an inner bolt may be provided, the inner bolt is rotatably fastened to the inner surface of each arm, The inner bolt is also adapted to engage a roll of coreless material.
A fixing mechanism can also be provided which releasably fixes the supporting unit to the frame. In particular embodiments of the present invention the attachment mechanism may include a flexible attachment finger placed on each arm. In such an embodiment, the support unit can be inserted into the frame until the cross bar is positioned near the rear support and the fixing finger on each arm engages one of the side rails of the frame releasably attaching the support unit to the frame. Therefore, the support unit is slidably retained within the channel of the frame. The support unit may further include two brackets, each bracket slidably fastened to one of the arms of the support unit so that the movement of each bracket along the arm of the support unit is essentially perpendicular to the movement of the unit. of support along the frame.
The carriage unit may further include two clamps, each clamp slidably fastened to one of the arms of the carriage unit so that the movement of each clamp together with the carriage arm is substantially perpendicular to the movement of the carriage unit together with the frame.
The present invention further encompasses a support unit adapter for solid or non-core rolls of paper material that are assorted in a roll dispenser having defined grooves on the interior surfaces of the side wall members thereof for receiving said adapter and a rear wall positioned at a distance from the slots that is slightly larger than the radius of a solid coreless roll, the solid or coreless rolls have defined recesses on the sides thereof that define an axis of rotation for said solid rolls or no core.
According to the invention, the support unit adapter includes a pair of spaced apart arms joined by a connecting member having a front surface and a back surface, each arm having an outer surface and an inner surface including: (i) ) an outer bolt placed on the outer surface, the outer bolt is configured to slideably engage a groove on the inner surface of a side wall member of the jet, and (ii) an inner bolt secured to the inner surface, the inner bolt is configured to hook a roll with no core material. Each arm has a length measured from the rear surface of the connecting member to the center of the bolt. outer that is greater than the distance between the slots and the rear wall of the spout so that the rear surface of the connecting member contacts the rear wall of the spout to force the connecting member outwardly from the same flat dimension as the pins outside when engaging these slots. This allows the support unit to hold said roll within the roll spout while allowing the carrier unit to move along the slots defined in said roll spout to an assortment position without interfering with the positioning of the rolls. subsequent rolls.
In one aspect of the invention, each spaced apart arm may be off-center to orient the connecting member out of the same planar dimension as the outer bolts as these engage the slots. For example, each spaced and spaced arm may be off-centered at an angle varying from about 10 degrees around 75 degrees. As another example, each spaced apart arm can be off-centered at an angle varying from about 30 degrees around 50 degrees. As another example, each spaced apart arm can be off-centered at an angle of about 40 degrees.
The support unit adapter may also include indicia of finger placement and thumb placement indicia on spaced apart arms.
Another aspect of the present invention encompasses a stackable support unit adapter for rolls of coreless or solid paper material that are assorted in a roll dispenser having defined grooves on the interior surfaces of the side wall members thereof for the receipt of said adapter and a rear wall placed at a distance from the grooves that is slightly larger than the radius of a roll without core or solid, rolls without core or solids have defined recesses on the sides thereof that define a rotating shaft For such rolls without core or solids, the adapter support unit. In this aspect of the invention, the adapted stackable support unit includes a pair of spaced apart arms joined by a connecting member having a front surface and a back surface, each arm having an outer surface and an inner surface including: (i) an outer bolt placed on the outer surface, the outer bolt is configured to slidably engage a groove on an inner surface of a sidewall member of the spout; (ii) an inner bolt secured to the inner surface, the inner bolt is configured to engage a roll of coreless material. Each arm has a length measured from the rear surface of the connecting member to the center of the outer bolt that is greater than the distance between the grooves and the upper wall of the spout so that the rear surface of the connecting member makes contact with the rear wall from the spout to force the connecting member out of the same planar dimension when engaging the outer pins of the slots. This configuration allows the stackable support unit to maintain the roll within the roll spout while allowing the support unit to move along the slots defined in the roll spout to an assortment position.
Each arm of the stackable support unit also includes an upper surface and a lower surface and a vertical separation element located at least a part of the upper surface of each of the spaced apart arms.
According to the invention, the vertical separation elements can each have a vertical height that is approximately the same as the radius of a complete roll of paper material to be supplied. The height can be adjusted by several factors including, but not limited to the dimensions of the spout.
Generally speaking, the vertical separation element of a first stackable support unit is adapted to contact or engage with at least a portion of the lower surfaces of the spaced apart arms of a second stackable support unit when the second unit of stackable support is placed directly on top of the first support unit.
Desirably, the vertical separation element of the first stackable support unit is adapted to contact or engage with at least a portion of the lower surfaces of the spaced apart arms of the second stackable support unit when the second support unit it is placed directly on top of the first support unit when the roll of paper product held in the first support unit is essentially depleted.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The adapter of the present invention allows solid or non-core rolls of material to be dispensed from the jets originally configured to supply rolls of conventional materials, each such roll having a hollow tube or core through which a shaft can be inserted. S contemplates that the configurations of the adapters can work with both the hollow core rolls and the coreless or solid rolls.
Reference will now be made in detail to several embodiments of the invention, one or more examples of which are illustrated in the drawings. Each example is provided by way of explanation of the invention and is not intended to be a limitation of said invention. For example, the features illustrated or described as part of an embodiment may be used in another embodiment to give even an additional embodiment. It is intended that the present invention cover such modifications and variations that fall within the scope and spirit of the invention.
The present invention is illustrated and described in relation to a dispenser for a bathroom tissue only for illustrative purposes, and this should not be construed as limiting the invention. It should be understood and appreciated that the present invention has uses in any application where the rolls of coreless material, and not necessarily the paper material, are dispensed from a dispensing device. Some other materials include, for example, non-woven fabrics, films, textiles, screens, meshes and composites or laminates that include one or more of the foregoing.
As used herein the term "coreless" refers to rolls which do not include a hollow tube or a hollow core through which a shaft device must be inserted. Therefore, a roll of material having a solid or non-hollow core is mentioned herein as a roll without a core of material. Additionally, a roll of material which is essentially wound through its diameter and having a central opening which extends along the winding axis is also considered to be a roll of coreless material.
The present invention will now be described with reference to the appended figures. An adapter for a vertically stacked dual roll dispenser is illustrated in Figure 1 at point 10. Selected embodiments of the adapter include a frame 14. Although the frame 14 may have many configurations, the frame 14 of the embodiment shown in FIG. Figure 1 is approximately C-shaped. The frame 14 may be a single piece, of unitary construction or may be composed of a plurality of interconnected members.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1 the frame 14 includes an upper part 16 and a lower part 18. The base 20 is provided, the base 20 includes a pair of side edges 22 and 24, a front edge 26 and a rear edge 28 A pair of spaced apart side rails
30 and 32 extend upward from the base 20 near the lateral edges 22 and 24 respectively. A posterior support
40 may be provided which extends upward from the base 20 near the rear edge 28. The back support 40 may include an interior surface 42, as illustrated in Figure 2, the side rails 30 and 32 may include the surfaces interiors 34 and 36 respectively. An upper rail 44 can also be included in the frame 14. The upper rail or rail 44 can be fastened to and extended between the upper portion 46 of said side rail 30, the upper portion 48 of the side rail 32 and the upper portion 50 of the support rear 40. As best shown in Figures 3 and 4, the frame 14 forms a channel 38 extending along at least a part of the length of the frame 14.
The frame 14 can be formed as a single unitary construction or multiple sections of interconnected materials. In some embodiments the frame 14 can be essentially solid. In such embodiments, a plurality of groove, opening and protruding surfaces may be formed in the frame to allow the frame to properly engage the support units and supply the rolls and core material.
The frame and support units of the present invention can be formed from a variety of materials such as, for example, metals, ceramics, plastics and combinations of such materials and the like.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, a single support unit 52 is shown. The support unit 52 shown here is adapted to carry a roll of single material which is shown in point 3 of Figure 5. As best shown in Figures 2, 6 and 7, the multiple support units can be used. inside the frame 14 so that the rolls of multiple material 13 can be supplied therefrom. Additionally, a single support unit 52 can be configured to carry a plurality of rolls of material. The selected embodiments of the support unit 52 can be configured to fit directly into a dispenser, eliminating the need for a frame.
The incorporation of the support unit 52 shown in Figure 13 includes a cross bar 54 having an outer surface 56. The support unit 52 may further include a pair of arms 58 and 60, each arm extending from and being secured to the arm. the transverse bar 54. The arms 58 t 60 are spaced apart from each other, and in selected embodiments, they are parallel to one another. In other embodiments, the arms 58 and 60 may be at various angles with respect to each other. Each arm 58 and 60 includes an inner surface 62 and 64, respectively, as well as an outer surface 66 and 68 respectively.
As shown in Figures 1, 3 and 4, each support unit 52 can be inserted into the channel 38 formed by the frame 14. The support unit 52 can be releasably fixed to the frame 14 so that the support unit is slidable along the channel 38 of the frame 14, but does not slide out of the channel 38 and disengages from the frame 14. In such embodiments, it may provide a fixing mechanism which releasably fixes the support unit 52 to the frame 14. Numerous closing mechanisms can be used in the present invention to releasably fix the support unit 52 to the frame 14.
In the embodiment used in figure 1, the fixing mechanisms 71 and 73 respectively are placed on the arms 58 and 60 respectively of the support unit | 52. As best seen in figures 1 and 6, the fixing mechanisms 71 and 73 include the openings 74 and 76 which are formed in the arms 58 and 60 respectively. Positioned within each of the openings 74 and 76 are the flexible locking fingers 78 and 80, respectively. As best illustrated in Figure 3 each fixing finger includes a fixing shoulder 82 and a ramp 84. When the unit slides of support 52 to a contact with the frame 14, the ramp 84 of each of the fixing fingers makes contact with the lateral rail 30 or 32. When the support unit 52 is additionally inserted in the channel 38, the fixing fingers 78 and 80 are flexed in and out of the respective side rail of the frame 14. After the unit 52 has been sufficiently seated in the channel 38 so that the outer surface 56 of the cross bar 54 is as close as desired of the inner surface 42 of the rear support 40, better shown in Figure 1, the end of the each ramp 84 is reached. The locking fingers 78 and 80 are then able to flex outwards to their unpressured positions. The shoulder 82 of each locking finger 78 and 80 prevents the support unit 52 from being withdrawn from the channel 38, when the shoulder 82 engages the rear surface of the rail on the respective side. Thus, the locking fingers 78 and 80 keep the support unit in contact with the frame 14 while the support unit 52 is allowed to slide freely within the channel 38 of the frame 14.
In certain embodiments and as shown in Figures 1, 3 and 6 each arm 50 and 60 may include a bracket -86 and 88, respectively. Each bracket 86 and 88 can be slidably or fixedly fastened to the arms 58 and 60, respectively of each support unit 52. The brackets 86 and 88 each include an outer surface 90 and 92, respectively, and an inner surface 94 and 96, respectively. In the incorporations which do not include a bracket 86 or 88, the inner surfaces 94 and 96 and the outer surfaces 90 and 92 are formed in the arms 58 and 60, respectively.
In the inner bolts 104 and 106 are positioned on the inner surfaces 94 and 96 respectively, each inner bolt 104 and 106 is adapted to engage the coreless or solid rolls which have the recesses defined on the vertical sides thereof which can also be define a rotary axis for coreless or solid rolls. Specifically, the inner bolts 104 and 106 engage the recesses, seals or openings of the roll of material. The alternate incorporations of the inner bolts 104 and 106 may be configured to engage the rolls of materials having solid or hollow cores. In the embodiments shown in Figures 3 and 4, each inner bolt 104 and 106 can rotate with respect to the inner surfaces 94 and 96 respectively, so that when the inner bolt 104 and 106 engage the coreless roll, the roll rotates and the material can be removed from it. Various configurations of the inner bolts can achieve this.
In some embodiments, the inner bolts 104 and 106 and the outer bolts 98 and 100 can be removably fastened from their respective surfaces so that the user can install the inner bolts configured for a particular type of rolled material and the outer bolts can be configured for a particular supplier. In such additions, the user can remove the bolts and install bolts configured differently which can be adapted for a different purpose. Additionally, the bolts which are removably fastened allow a user to easily replace worn or broken bolts. As shown in Figure 7 the outer bolts can be configured so that the outermost part of the bolt is spaced apart from the arms 58 and 60. The distance by which the outermost part of the bolt is spaced from the arms can be vary to meet the requirements of a particular supplier.
In selected embodiments, the brackets 86 and 88 are slidably fastened to the arms 58 and 60. In some embodiments, this will allow a roll of material 13 to be loaded into the brackets 86 and 88 without needing to remove the support unit 52 from the bracket. frame 14. In selected embodiments, the direction of movement of the brackets 86 and 88 along the arms 58 and 60, respectively, of the support unit 52 is essentially normal to the direction of movement of the support unit 52 within of channel 38 of frame 14.
The adapter 10 of the present invention is useful with a variety of dispensers for storing and dispensing multiple rolls of solid or coreless rolled material. Many such dispensers include a dispensing frame having side wall members, a front cover and a dispensing opening on a front side thereof. The side wall members may have opposing and generally oriented vertically oriented grooves or paths in the interior surfaces thereof.
One such spout 110 is shown in Figure 8 which is formed of a spout frame 112 having the side walls 114. The side walls 114 include an interior surface 116. The spout 116 may also include a front cover member 118 that pivots outwardly of the spout frame 112 at the pivot points 120. The cover 118 may also include an opening that defines the dispensing position of the lowermost roll and may further include the vertical arms 122 which are fastened to the spout frame 112 at the point of pivot 120. Alternatively, a lower part of the spout may contain an opening that defines the dispensing position for the lowermost roll. An oscillating arm 124 is illustrated as being housed within the structure 126 defining a slot 128. The operation of the oscillator arm 124 is also understood by those skilled in the art and generally serves to hold a top roll of material above the dispensing position of a bottom roll until the bottom roll has run out. When such a spout is used with the adapter 10 of the present invention, the outer bolts 98 and 100, shown in Fig. 1, engage the slots 128. Once the bottom roll has been exhausted, a support unit 52 brings the lower roll sliders down to a lower position at the bottom. slots 128 which allows the oscillating arm 124 to pivot and allows the upper roll to fall into the dispensing position.
A more detailed explanation of the dispensing frame and the components is not necessary for the purposes of the present disclosure. Such conventional dispensers have typically been used to supply multiple vertical tissue paper rolls having hollow cores.
In the selected embodiments the inner bolts 104 and 106 of the support unit 52 can extend at least partially into the recess defined on the roll side and can also include a rolling surface against which the additional vertically placed roll can rest and roll inside the spout once the first roll of solid core held by the adapters is used. In other words, once the first roll of material is exhausted, desirably the second vertically oriented roll will fall into a dispensing position within the spout and the support unit will fall into the bottom of the dispensing slots and stop there until the spout be open for replacement of the rolls. When the second roll falls into its dispensing position, the circumference of the second roll will rest on and roll against the inner pins 104 and 106, particularly on the rolling surface defined by the inner pins. In an embodiment, the rolling surface may be generally horizontal. In an alternate embodiment the rolling surface can be conical in shape. Any number of various shapes and configurations can be used to define such rolling surfaces.
The adapter can be secured to the dispenser in a variety of ways, including the use of mechanical fasteners, similar adhesives. In selected embodiments, it may be desirable to releasably secure the adapter to the dispenser, so that this allows the adapter to be easily removed so that the dispenser can be quickly converted to supply rolls with core material or rolls of coreless material.
Referring now to Figure 9, there is shown not necessarily to scale, a perspective view of an example holder unit adapter 200. The "holder 200" unit adapter is for rolls of solid or non-core paper material that they are assorted in a roll dispenser 110 of the type shown in FIG. 8 having side walls 114 having the slots 128 on the inner surfaces 116 thereof for receiving said adapter and a rear wall 300 positioned at a distance from the slots. which is slightly larger than the radius of a roll with no core or solid, the solid or non-core rolls having recesses defined on the sides thereof define a rotary axis for said rolls without core or solids.
According to the invention, the support unit adapter 200 includes a pair of spaced apart arms 202 joined by a connecting member 204 having a front surface 206 and a rear surface 208. Each arm has an outer surface 210 and a inner surface 212. An outer bolt 214 is positioned on the outer surface 210, the bolt being configured to slidably engage a slot 128 on an interior surface 116 of a side wall 114 of the spout 110 (see Figure 8). A bolt 216 fastened to the inner surface 212, the inner bolt 216 is configured to engage a roll with no core of material. The outer pin 214 and / or the inner pin 216 may be fixed or configured to rotate.
Each arm 202 has a length "L" measured from the back surface 208 of the connector member 204 to the center of the outer pin 214 that is greater than a distance "D" between the slots 128 and the rear wall 300 of the spout 110 (see figure 8) so that the back surface 208 of the connector member 204 contacts the rear wall 300 of the spout 110 to force the connector member 204 out of the same flat dimension "P" as the outer pins 214 as these engage the slots 128. This allows the support unit 200 to retain the roll within the roll spout 110 while allowing said support unit to move along the slots 128 of the roll spout to a dispensing position without interfering with the positioning of the spout. the subsequent rolls.
This is shown in greater detail in Figures 11 and 12. In Figure 11, the coreless product rolls are held in the separate carrier units 200. The outer pins 214 engage the slot 128. As can be seen, the length "L "is greater than distance" D ". This causes the connecting member 204 to be placed in a flat dimension "C" which is not the same as the flat dimension "P" in which the outer pin 214 is located. In Figure 12, it can be seen that one of the coreless rolls is exhausted and that the support unit 200 has fallen to the bottom of the spout and that a second roll or reserve roll and its corresponding support unit adapter has fallen downwardly. to a supply position.
Figure 13 gives an overall perspective view of how the coreless rolls and support unit adapters 200 are fitted within the spout 110.
Referring now to figure 10, there was shown a perspective view of a carrier unit adapter. Each spaced apart arm 202 may be off center to be oriented to connector member 204 so that it is out of the same flat dimension "P" as outer bolts 214 when engaging bolts into slots 128. For example, each arm is spaced apart it can be off-centered at an angle f varying from about 10 degrees around 75 degrees. Another example, each spaced apart arm can be off-centered at an angle f ranging from about 30 degrees to about 50 degrees. As yet another example, each spaced apart arm can be off-centered at an angle f of about 40 degrees.
The adapter of the support unit 200 may also include the finger placement indicia 250 and the thumb placement indicia 252 (see Figure 9) on the spaced apart arms. In this particular configuration, the finger and thumb placement indicia is the position for the support unit adapter to be grasped by the right hand of an individual. These indicia aid the individual grip of the adapter of the support unit to adequately support it so that the connection member is oriented upwards (for example towards the top of a spout) so that the support unit holds the roll inside. of said roll dispenser while allowing said support unit to move along the slots defined in said roll dispenser to a dispensing position. Importantly, if the support unit adapter is improperly grasped and installed head-first, the roll will not be properly dispensed.
The finger positioning indicia 250 may have a smaller area than the thumb placement indicia 252 to generally correspond to the contact area of the respective finger and thumb on the support unit when it is properly gripped. It may be desirable to use different patterns or textures for each clue. For example, finger placement indicia 250 may be a series of inserts or slots and thumb placement indicia 252 may be a series of stops or ridges to provide different tactile properties to assist an individual in identifying points of contact. proper grip that produce the correct installation position.
Referring to time to Figure 14, there is shown not necessarily to scale, a perspective view of an alternate incorporation of the support unit adapter 200 which is configured or adapted to be stackable. The carrier unit is essentially the same as the unit shown in Figure 9. However, the stackable unit also includes the vertical separation elements.
In. in particular, each spaced apart arm 202 further includes an upper surface 400 and a lower surface 402. A vertical spacing element 404 is located on at least a portion of the upper surface 400 of each of the spaced apart arms 202.
Generally speaking, vertical separation elements 404 each have a vertical height "H" that is approximately the same as the radius of a roll of full paper material to be stocked. This height can be adjusted for several factors including bolt not limited to the dimensions of the spout.
During a conventional operation, as shown for example in Figure 11, a spout roll and a reserve roll are held in place. When the bottom jet roll is exhausted, the roll and support unit drops down and slides down the slots on the interior surfaces of the jet.
However, in some situations, when the lower spout roll is essentially exhausted, the reserve roll falls down over the top of the spout roll.
According to the embodiment of the invention shown, for example in Figure 16 the vertical separation element 404 of a first support unit 200 is adapted to contact or engage at least a portion of the lower surfaces 402 of the arms and spaced support brackets 202 of a second carrier unit 200 'when the support unit is placed directly on top of the first carrier unit.
Desirably, the vertical separation member 404 of the first carrier unit 200 is adapted to contact or engage at least a portion of the lower surfaces 402 of the spaced apart arms 202 of the second carrier unit 200 'when the Paper product maintained in the first support unit is essentially depleted.
The vertical separation elements 404 of the lower or bottom support unit 200 must have a sufficient height "H" so that when they contact at least a portion of the lower surfaces 402 of the upper or second support unit 200 'holding a reserve roll, there is sufficient separation to create a crack 406 between the spout roll is essentially depleted and the reserve roll held by the second or upper support unit; The spacing 406 requires only having a sufficient dimension to prevent the reserve roll from interfering with and easily and reliably dispensing the essentially exhausted assortment roll. For example, the spacing 406 may be 1 or 2 millimeters. Desirably, the spacing 406 may be around 5 millimeters. It is contemplated that the spacing 406 may be greater than 5 millimeters such as 10, 15 or 20 millimeters or greater.
It should be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the particular dimensions of the adapters of the present invention will vary depending on the type of dispenser used. It is well within the reach of an expert in the art to determine the optimum dimensions for these adapters depending on the type of dispenser with which the adapters are to be used. It will also be appreciated by those with a skill in the art that various modifications and variations may be made in the present invention. The adapters of the present invention are described and illustrated as used in the dispensers. It is within the scope and spirit of the invention that the adapters can be used with any type of dispenser where multiple rolls of solid or non-core material are housed and moved there to a dispensing position. The adapters are not limited to use with dispensers. It is intended that the present invention cover such modifications and variations as fall within the scope and spirit of the appended claims and their equivalents.
