Description
TOY WITH REMOTE CONTROLLED SECURITY ALARM BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The invention described herein relates to a toy, such as a toy vehicle, which has a remote controlled security alarm. Toy designers seek to provide toys that reproduce real life because realistic toys have a high value of play, and typically, more realistic the toy, the greater its game value. Among the many toys for which this is evident are the toy vehicles. The realism of toy vehicles has been achieved in terms of appearance, sound and function. For example, miniature toy vehicles are sold which seek to reproduce the full-scale versions of real life in miniature details. Some small-scale toy vehicles still have functioning parts, such as doors that open, etc. Other small-scale toys, somewhat larger than the miniatures, provide more elaborate working parts and / or provide sound effects, although they retain many, if not all, of the miniatures. Other toy vehicles still provide functionality and / or remote-controlled sound effects. See, for example, the following United States Patents: 4,219,952; 4,242,107; 4,325,199; 4,580,994; 4,817,948; 4,946,416; 4,964,837; 5,024,626; 5,045,016; 5,195,920; and 5,306,197.
OBJECTS AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION An object of the invention described herein is to reproduce some or all of the functions of a security alarm of a vehicle in a toy vehicle. Another object of the invention is to provide a security alarm device in a toy vehicle. Another object of the invention is to provide a security alarm device in a toy vehicle that is controlled remotely. The invention achieves these and other objects by reproducing one or more alarm functions of a vehicle in a toy vehicle. A toy vehicle which incorporates a security alarm device according to the invention comprises a controller having a control input, at least one sensor coupled to the controller, and a signaling device coupled to the controller. The safety alarm device has an armed state and a disarmed state and is responsive to at least one sensor in its armed state and to the control signal supplied to assume the armed and disarmed states. The controller causes the signaling device to generate a signal in response to the activation of at least one sensor in the armed state of the security alarm device and causes the signaling device to stop generating the signal when the alarm device is placed in its unarmed state. In another embodiment, the toy vehicle incorporates the security alarm device according to the invention comprising the controller and the signaling device described above, but does not necessarily include the sensor. In this mode, the controller causes the signaling device to generate a signal in response to a change in the state of the security alarm device between its armed state and its disarmed state. In the preferred embodiment, the security device includes the sensor and the controller causes the signaling device to generate a signal in response to a change in the state of the security alarm device between its armed state and its disarmed state. In the preferred embodiment, the signaling device comprises an audio device which generates a sound signal, but may instead comprise a visual device which generates a visual signal, or both.
The toy vehicle may comprise a propulsion system that includes an electric motor which drives the toy vehicle and a motor actuator which selectively supplies power to the electric motor, and the controller is coupled to the motor driver and deactivates the motor driver when the alarm device is in its armed state. In the preferred embodiment, the security alarm device and all or other selected vehicle functions are remotely controlled by a remote control device coupled to the control input of the controller. Preferably, the remote control device and the security alarm device are wirelessly coupled, and the toy vehicle comprises a receiver coupled to the control input of the safety alarm device controller operating to receive in a manner Wireless a signal from the remote control device. The controller responds to the receiver to make the security alarm device assume its armed and disarmed states. The sensor can be a motion sensor or a microswitch or magnetic switch, for example.
The remote control device may include an infrared transmitter and the receiver correspondingly includes an infrared receiver. In the preferred embodiment, the controller includes a sound synthesizer and a signaling device comprising a speaker coupled to the controller to receive output signals thereof. The synthesizer generates buzzing sound signals that represent changes of state of the safety alarm device between its armed and disarmed states and a siren buzzer or car horn signal, and the controller causes the synthesizer to generate the signals in buzz form in response to a change in the state of the safety alarm device between its armed state and its disarmed state and a siren or car horn sound in response to the activation of at least one sensor in the armed state of the security alarm device. The signaling device may be a visual device such as vehicle lights, or the signaling device may include audio and visual devices. The audio and visual devices may be lights and a horn which are typically provided with a vehicle, or audio and visual devices which are only part of the alarm device.
